The forum for those responsible for their City of London organisation’s plate, documents and other treasures
The Society was established in 2026 and held its first meeting in the early summer. On that occasion, the nearly 50 attendees, drawn from all parts of the City Civic, had a chance to get to know each other and discuss issues over items in their respective collections. Then we heard from a speaker on trends in the UK silver market, as they impact on us, and from another expert on how to digitise and display historic documents. Then after the meeting, there was an informal lunch, so there could be further discussion of current issues.
The Society meets at Chartered Accountants’ Hall, just north of the Bank of England, because it has the facilities we need, is centrally located, and that Livery is a supporter of the Society.
Membership is free and is open to those responsible for the care of their City Civic’s plate, documents and other treasures, and those craftsmen and advisors who support them in their work.
Meetings last two hours, from 11am to 1pm (teas, coffees, water are served from 10.30am), and cost £25 to attend. This sum covers the costs of the refreshments, and of the lunch we buy our guest speakers after the meeting, as our way of thanking them for their expertise and time.

The next meeting will be on Friday, 20th November at 10.30am for 11am. On that occasion, there will be three linked speakers. The first will advise us on the different bases of valuation for plate, the second on the various ways documents can be valued, and the third will be an insurance expert, who will talk to us about what options we face to insure them, once those valuations have been obtained, and what factors should impact our decisions along the way.
All applications to attend a meeting are checked against the membership list, so if you have not attended one before, please apply to join, and then book in.
